Where to begin...

... with our trip to Chartres?

Still rather overwhelmed. Bewildered, you might say. Too much is not enough.

A collage of architectural details is as good a place as any...

Perhaps. (You can always click on it if you want to see more).

Thanks for this collage. Somewhere in the back of my soul is a poem trying to get out but the surface of me is too tired to let it through. Oh well. Something about being too small to be so rigid...but that would be me, not Chartres. Is there not a labyrinth on the floor there? I think so. I think it would be a goal of mine should I ever get to France to walk it.

It's classic and very interesting:-)

You are right about too much. "A man's reach must exceed his grasp ...." The collage illustrates the point.

More of that multi-coloured grey stone your camera seems to handle so well. Our encounter with Chartres in nineteen days' time will be architecturally rather more humble: overnight at the Hôtel Marmotte en route to the Languedoc. Ah France, land of cathedrals and spiky conversation.
