Misty, an experiment.

This is an experimental post.  I've ventured into editing the html to expand the width of the layout on this blog, so that perhaps I can post photos in the extra-large format so kindly provided by the new post editor, but which has always been useless since my blog is too narrow for it.  In Blogger Help, I found this useful forum discussion, so here goes.

A misty morning, after the snow,

Lapwings flying into the misty blue,

and a curious arc of refracted light, like a colourless rainbow, which followed us round.

Now, let's see if that's worked...

Yes, it has!  Slightly embarrassing, somehow, seeing them that big.  I expect I'll get used to it, but I shall have to do something about the banner, which is now too narrow.  Probably time for a new one anyway, though I think I like this one more than any I've had before .  Thanks to jstngav5 for the tip.  I feel very intrepid messing with html like this, but quite emboldened!

So now I've widened the banner too, and gone back over the last few posts to embiggen some of the pictures, this is fun...

Beautiful photos- evocative of the January clarity and stillness.

You're brave and well rewarded to play with the html to get what you want. I've tried a little and ended up going to another layout to get some of what I wanted. The one that I had been using was actually a GIF and not really adjustable. Now, if I could just mix my own custom background color- I'd be set. For a while.

I'll go and read the link that you offered- thanks.

These are gorgeous, specially the lapwings, but all of them for their mistly beauty. Congrats on success with HTML

Lucy - adjusting the width of your banner shouldn't be too difficult. I'd be glad to help you do it. You might want to add a custom favicon at the same time? Once again, easy to do.

By the way.... I love you blog.

All the best

Great idea! Very tempting too.

The fields look very loamy and green. Particularly fond of the last picture.

Gorgeous, moody and romantic, even more so bigger like this! Congrats on figuring out how! When I first started my blog, I was told to make my images small but over the years I've been making them ever bigger. Sometimes I think I should go back and redo the old ones but that's just too many years' work :-(

I've been looking for ways to show off my pictures in big size and I settled for the current template. I will want to try your ways but you know..I still don't understand how even when I read the forum..maybe I'll come again when I have more time. And your pictures..what great feed they are to my soul!

This is great. I feel like I can step into the landscape of your photos, now.

The trees look like feathers. The experiment works well, especially with these landscape photographs. As far as I am concerned, the bigger the better. I must find out how embiggening photos work on the blog.

Maximum Lucy! I like it. Now I really must seriously think about procuring a better mobile with more memory though. My Nokia can't handle big it seems. This series of misty wonders is one of your best, sweet Lucy. I had to blink, thinking that there was movement in there. Glad you dove into the html and have decided to embiggen.

These are beautiful pictures. I love shooting in fog and mist for the way that even the very familiar can be surprising.

The blog looks good, but beware. I fooled with my HTML once and then got addicted. I'm not proud, but I sometimes change things on my site just for the sake of playing with HTML. I've even gotten into CSS. I should get help.

Lovely to get such an encouraging response! Thanks, and see you all soon.

Photos look so much better on a larger scale, Lucy.
I, too, adjusted mine with advice from Pohangina Pete (see my posting thanking him). He also emailed me with details of how to adjust blog widths easily. If you email me with your email address I will forward his instructions.
(I felt embarassed, too, with the bigger size at first. But it has grown on me. One day all blogs will be this size!)

Lucy, these are just magnificent. As someone else said, I do feel as if I can BE in that landscape NOW.
So happy to have a glimpse again of your world.

Such lovely, lovely photos. I love the shape of the trees in the second one.

Always find some lovely photos here.

Like the trees that seem to be leaning over in the mist to whisper to each other.

I haven't visited in a while, so I was immediately struck by your larger photos.

What an inaugural post! Where is this gorgeous, dreamy world that you've captured so spectacularly?
