Reflections

Come. Walk by water
turn things this way and that
around and over, yet
let light glance, dance,
pass through.
Keep calm, carry on.

(For Clémence)

Oh, thank God for you and your photos and your words!

I see you've taken Clémence for an outing and it's true, she does look pretty. I'm sorry I now appear to have been cast in the role of nag but you have to admit that Clémence without her accent would have been the empress without her clothes.

As compensation here's a memory I suspect you'll share and it was triggered by your first photo. In the film Alec Guinness always wanted to make, The Horse's Mouth, he gives a performance as a mad maverick painter that manages to convey something of the nature of painting. An amateur lady shows him one of her water-colours and he points to the reflection of a yacht's mast, broken into shards by ripples on the sea. "Ah," he says, "technique!" Since then, that perfectly natural visual phenomenon has never been the same. No implications implied.

All of our visual perception is light bouncing off of surfaces, these make me remember that. I like the color contrasts. You may enjoy the asymmetrical reflection pictures at A Bad Guide.

All lovely, but that second one is extraordinary. Like some rediscovered post-impressionist painting.

And a serene piece of verse to accompany them. Lucky Clémence!

The second one: immediately thought what a nice book jacket it would be!
